San Francisco’s New Waterfront Neighborhood: Watch the Film
Published on March 24, 2025
San Francisco has always been a city shaped by its surroundings—by the Bay, its hills and a spirit of innovation that pushes forward while staying deeply connected to nature. From the heart of the Bay, Treasure Island is now emerging as one of the city’s most exciting new neighborhoods.
This transformation is the focus of our new film, featuring two of the individuals behind the vision: Chris Meany (Co-CEO of Treasure Island Community Development and Partner at Wilson Meany) and Kevin Conger (CMG Landscape Architecture), along with Danielle Slaton, Bay FC Co-Founder & Former U.S. Women’s National Team Player. Together, they tell the story of an island being reimagined not just as a place to live but as a new ideal—a place that brings people together through parks, public spaces, and a connection to the waterfront unlike anywhere else in San Francisco.
The Vision Behind Treasure Island
Chris Meany has been leading the charge on Treasure Island’s redevelopment. He shares how this historic destination is becoming something truly special—designed for walkability, with contemporary residences, vibrant businesses, and over 300 acres of open space that serve both island residents and the entire Bay Area.
“The ferry landing here was part of the vision from the beginning,” Meany explains. “The idea was always to create a space that welcomed people right when they step off the ferry—a place to meet friends or just take in the views around you.”
That sense of openness and connection is reflected in Cityside Park, which overlooks Downtown San Francisco, offering one of the city’s most expansive waterfront experiences. “It’s not just about serving the island,” Meany continues, “it’s about creating a space where San Francisco itself can breathe.”
Parks and Public Spaces That Connect People to the Bay
At the heart of Treasure Island’s transformation is its commitment to green space and sustainability. No one understands this more than Kevin Conger, the principal at CMG Landscape Architecture, who has spent years designing the island’s network of parks, trails and gathering spaces.
Conger sees these parks as the foundation of a new kind of urbanism, extending well beyond just recreation. “We wanted to create spaces that feel natural, that feel like they belong to everyone. The landscape isn’t just something you walk through—it’s something that connects you to the Bay, to the city and to the people around you.”
From Panorama Park, which offers breathtaking skyline views, to The Rocks Dog Park, where neighbors and their pets gather, every space is designed with intention. Clipper Cove Park, Buckeye Grove and Cityside Park are just a few of the places where the island’s rhythm comes to life.
BayFC and the Future of Sports on Treasure Island
The film also introduces Danielle Slaton, co-founder of Bay FC and a former U.S. Women’s National Team player. Bay FC, the Bay Area’s first professional women’s soccer team, has chosen Treasure Island for its state-of-the-art training facility, solidifying the island as a hub for sports, recreation and community.
“For us, it was the perfect fit,” Slaton explains. “Treasure Island has space, it has energy and it has a vision that aligns with who we are as a club. This isn’t just where we’ll train—it’s where we’ll build a connection with fans, with the community and with the future of Bay Area soccer.”
Bay FC joins a growing number of businesses, recreational spaces and local organizations shaping Treasure Island’s identity as a community to belong to, not simply visit.
A New Way to See San Francisco
As the film explores, Treasure Island’s transformation isn’t about the future—it’s happening now. Parks are open. Businesses are thriving. Residents are moving in. Ferries depart daily from Gate B at the Ferry Building, making the island an easy 8-minute trip from downtown San Francisco.
Beyond a neighborhood, Treasure Island represents a reimagining of what San Francisco can be. And as Chris Meany puts it in the film, “These parks, these homes, the businesses and this community—it’s a new chapter for San Francisco.”
