Bay FC Plans Game-Changing Training Facility on Treasure Island
Published on January 4, 2025
In a thrilling development for women’s sports and the Bay Area community, Bay FC has chosen Treasure Island as the location for its first permanent training facility. This new state-of-the-art complex, announced jointly by San Francisco Mayor London Breed, Supervisor Matt Dorsey, and Bay FC executives, will bring the women’s professional soccer franchise closer to the heart of the Bay, adding a fresh sports destination to San Francisco’s evolving landscape.
Bay FC was co-founded by U.S. Women’s National Team veterans Brandi Chastain, Leslie Osborne, Danielle Slaton, and Aly Wagner, alongside investment firm Sixth Street. The team finished their inaugural season by setting a new standard for expansion clubs, recording 11 regular season wins—the most ever by a first-year team. They also became just the second team to qualify for the playoffs in their debut season.
A World-Class Facility in the Heart of the Bay
Bay FC’s new training facility marks a significant milestone for women’s sports in the United States. Purpose-built for female athletes, the complex will cover approximately 8.5 acres and feature three training fields, advanced operational facilities, and elite resources designed to empower players at the highest level.
The team’s CEO, Brady Stewart, underscored the importance of this dedicated space, which will create an immersive environment where players can train, recover, and thrive year-round. With Bay FC joining the ranks of the first NWSL clubs to invest in women-centered infrastructure, the facility demonstrates the club’s commitment to elevating professional women’s soccer.
“We are proud to welcome Bay FC to be a part of Treasure Island and San Francisco,” said Mayor Breed. “This also is another major success for Treasure Island, a future neighborhood that will be home to thousands of people, thriving businesses, iconic views, and now a new soccer destination that will bring together our professional players and community from across the Bay Area.”
More Than a Training Facility
For Bay FC, the Treasure Island location symbolizes the club’s aspirations on a global scale.
“Treasure Island provides us an iconic location to continue to build an iconic club – it centers the Bay’s team literally in the middle of the Bay,” said Stewart. The facility will anchor Bay FC’s football operations and contribute to Treasure Island’s expanding sports infrastructure. With a 2025 groundbreaking, Bay FC’s new home on the island will become operational in time for the 2027 season.
The impact of this move will resonate well beyond the club’s players and staff. By providing space for soccer clinics and community events, Bay FC’s facility will also enhance youth programming while celebrating and cultivating young talent across the Bay Area. This investment expands upon Treasure Island’s longtime role as a center for youth and community sports, strengthening its mission to serve Bay Area residents of all ages.
A Strategic Investment in San Francisco’s Newest Neighborhood
The announcement aligns with Treasure Island’s rapid community transformation. Currently, Treasure Island is emerging as one of San Francisco’s newest neighborhoods, poised to welcome over 8,000 residents over the coming years. The 250-unit Isle House, the island’s first high-rise, opened this year, and more homes are slated to open in early 2025. This residential expansion is complemented by spaces like Bay FC’s training facility, which brings an added layer of vitality and excitement to the island.
Chris Meany of Treasure Island Community Development sees Bay FC’s arrival as “an economic catalyst that will drive even more interest in Treasure Island.”
With Treasure Island as its new training ground, Bay FC’s journey underscores the resilience and growth of women’s soccer, anchoring the team’s commitment to community engagement and athletic excellence right in the middle of the Bay at Treasure Island.
