Details
Yerba Buena Island, the second-largest natural island in San Francisco Bay, is undergoing a multi-phase development and restoration alongside the larger, man-made Treasure Island. Once a naval base, much of its native ecosystem was displaced by invasive species. Today, redevelopment efforts focus on ecological restoration, with over 50 native plant species reintroduced. Recent projects include two parks and a potable water tank site, created through collaboration between the developer, the City of San Francisco, ecologists, and landscape architects, blending habitat restoration with public open space.
